Friends are the people you choose to share more of your everyday life with. An update doesn't have to explain your whole history to strangers before it makes sense. You can pick up a conversation with people who already know you.
Create a circle for family, neighbours, a reading group or the friends planning a trip. When a post is for that group, choose its circle as the audience. You can keep those parts of your life on one account without sending every update to everyone.
Some things belong on the open web: a piece of writing, a photograph you're proud of, an invitation anyone can take up. Choose public for those posts. A public presence and a more personal life can sit alongside each other.
